A cooler room, with a practical plan.

Start with the room, how often you use it and what makes it too hot. We compare shading, an assessed portable option and specialist fixed cooling before recommending a route.

Useful beats smart.

Portable cooling: one room, carefully assessed.

A portable-cooling unit may be suitable where the room, supply and installation details fit. It is not an established off-the-shelf Snug package. We confirm the exact unit and stock, a practical demonstration where available, and a suitable exhaust finish before taking the installation forward.

Where it can help

A specific room used for limited periods, with a suitable window and realistic cooling expectation. Start with shading where it can reduce the problem.

What the room must accommodate

An exhaust hose and assessed window arrangement, suitable direct power, room for airflow, condensate handling and a compressor that can be heard in the room.

When to choose another route

An unsuitable opening, unresolved security or escape needs, very low noise tolerance or frequent long-term use can favour shading or a specialist split system.

A dated running-cost example

At an electrical input of 1.35kW and 26.11p/kWh, the arithmetic is about 35p per hour while drawing that input. This uses the July–September 2026 electricity rate, not a forecast of your tariff or average real-world use. The unit’s 3.52kW cooling output is not its electrical consumption.

Sources: An illustrative 1.35kW electrical input and Ofgem’s dated electricity rate.

Fixed cooling: compare the long-term option.

A properly specified split or multi-split system may suit regularly used rooms better. The compressor sits outside, with indoor units positioned around the room. An agreed appropriately qualified specialist initially delivers this route, with the responsibilities and full price set out before booking.

A separate survey

Indoor and outdoor locations, noise, pipe routes, condensate, electrical supply, permissions and practical access all affect suitability and cost.

A complete installation scope

The quote names who supplies, installs, commissions and supports the system, including specialist refrigerant and electrical work. It is not assumed within a portable-cooling or shading quote.

September 2026 planning guide — not a Snug fixed-price offer

Published regional examples suggest roughly £2,000–£3,000 for a straightforward one-room split installation and £3,600–£5,100 for a simple two-room multi-split arrangement. These are broad third-party comparators, not a Snug quotation or a promise of availability. Equipment, VAT treatment, access and installation inclusions must be checked in your actual quote.

Before you decide.

Is portable cooling suitable for every room?

No. We assess heat gain, shading, use, window type, exhaust route, security, power and noise tolerance. A large or awkward room, unsuitable window or very noise-sensitive use can make fixed cooling or another approach more appropriate.

Can I sleep with a portable unit running?

A portable unit has its compressor in the room. Sound matters even when a product is described as quiet. We discuss your tolerance and, where available, an actual demonstration; no promise of silent sleep.

Can the exhaust window stay secure?

The proposed window arrangement needs assessment for security, weather, escape and practical use. A temporary insert is not a security-rated window replacement. We confirm a suitable finish before offering the installation.

Does portable cooling need drainage?

Condensate requirements depend on mode and conditions. We agree safe drainage, emptying and hose placement for the selected unit. It also needs a suitable direct socket; we do not control the compressor with a smart plug.

Is the portable unit guaranteed to be available?

No. The selected portable-cooling unit is a candidate for assessed installations. We confirm the exact unit, stock, price, demonstration availability and exhaust solution before booking. The illustration is not that product or proof of an installed Snug prototype.

Who installs fixed air conditioning?

Initially the fixed split or multi-split route uses an agreed appropriately qualified specialist. The quote identifies responsibilities for refrigerant work, electrical provision, condensate, commissioning and aftercare. We do not imply that a specialist partner is already booked.

Will fixed cooling be quieter and cheaper to run?

Moving the compressor outside can make split systems a better long-term choice for regular use, but indoor and outdoor sound, efficiency and costs depend on the selected system and installation. We compare suitable options, not a universal saving.

Do you replace boilers or install whole-house heat pumps?

No. This page concerns room cooling. The Snug heating-controls offer is separate from boiler replacement, gas work and heat-pump installation.
